The Supporters Trust are pleased that the football club have made a statement regarding the situation with the manager of Barnsley FC, Mark Robins. The statement issued by Barnsley FC, explaining the situation has negated many of the concerns that supporters were facing.
The information released by the club that they are looking at taking a lead within the championship in maintaining a break even position, in line with plans to be discussed at a football league meeting is welcome, and we envisage that similar discussions will be occurring at other championship clubs. The last thing the Supporters Trust and Barnsley supporters wish is to return to the uncertain times, we faced during the administration period. Whilst loan players can be a short term fix, we are aware of the issue's that relying on these expensive loan systems can have, has been demonstrated by our near neighbours, Sheffield United, where an over reliance on loan players has led to relegation and financial difficulties.
We live in very difficult financial times and many fans have probably experienced redundancy, reductions in salary or reduced hours in order to help their employer survive. Football is not immune to this and the club management should be applauded for being realistic in taking this stance.
Over the last few weeks, we have seen the emergence of several good players from the academy at Oakwell, we can see that this is a potential good source of players for the football club.
We are all disappointed that Mark Robins has decided to resign as Barnsley FC first team manager with immediate effect and we would like to wish Mark all the best for the future. However, we have to move to on and we now look forward to a new era.
Finally, we would like to wish the owner of Barnsley FC, Patrick Cryne all the best and look forward to seeing him back at Oakwell in the near future
